Our Occupational Therapists like to think of themselves as “problem solvers”. We consider the whole person and come up with the bespoke support that enables people to live independently and live well. When you are working in a place as diverse as Reading, you can expect to encounter very different levels of need. Our clients come from a vast array of economic, social and ethnic backgrounds. Understanding such diverse need and designing the right support means you are always learning. Our solutions don’t all come out of the same box.
The variety of roles on offer means that Reading is a place where you can really diversify your professional experience within Occupational Therapy. Expect to pack plenty into your time here. And we are very open to people who want to move between teams to experience different areas of work. We’re all learning, all of the time. It’s important to us that we retain and develop talented people. We want you to develop your career with us.
We’re serious about your professional development. That means regular and attentive supervision, alongside a consistent commitment to both formal and informal CPD. And you’ll discover a team environment that is all about working together, learning from those are around you and sharing expertise. Our monthly learning events are a great environment for the team to come together and undertake training that is tailored to what they do and that adds real value to their work. We offer opportunities to develop your supervision, mentoring and Practice Educator skills supporting Occupational Therapy students from Coventry University, Oxford Brooks University and University of Hertfordshire. You will also have the opportunity to work with our in-house Occupational Therapy Degree Apprentices .
The fact that we have a Principal Occupational Therapist role backs up our commitment to high quality provision. This is a strategic leadership role in the organisation that is an influential voice for the profession; that identifies and facilitates best practice in what we do; and acts a professional advisor and mentor to the team.
But we also know the importance of giving you the space and freedom to do your job well. We think you should be able to do the job you trained for. So you’ll have the autonomy to make professional recommendations, and where you identify a particular need, you’ll find that the organisation is incredibly supportive in allocating required resources to meet this.
